The largest war-time veterans organization, the American Legion was chartered by the United States Congress in 1919 as a patriotic war-time veterans organization devoted to mutual helpfulness which now numbers nearly 3 million members, in nearly 15,000 American Legion posts worldwide.

Fountain Brothers American Legion Post 1619 consists of four hard-working groups of dedicated individuals - Post 1619 Veterans, American Legion Auxiliary Unit 1619, American Legion Sons Squadron 1619, and American Legion Riders Chapter 1619. All four groups are actively involved in many of our fund-raising efforts and contribute to the strong sense of community found at the post. Post 1619 is approximately 300 members strong and is often called the West Plattsburgh Legion.

Notes from the Post:

• Legion Riders gear up for summer fun..! Warmer weather is on the way and that means the riders are busy planning many activities. In the works are some rides, of course, and the second annual Concert on the Pond featuring a day of music and food after an early ride. Check out the Events page for this and other activities.

• The Honor Flight program is a national effort to transport World War II Veterans to the WWII Memorial located in Washington, DC. The veterans are taken there at no cost to them with escorts and medical attention during the entire evolution. On Friday, March 15th, the Post conducted a brief ceremony where all four groups (Auxiliary, Sons, Riders and Legion Members) presented the Commander of North Country Honor Flights (our local chapter of the Honor Flight program) with donations to help the effort.
